TURNING MOVEMENT COUNTS

The collection of intersection Turning Movement Counts is a primary step in most traffic studies.  It is important to accurately determine the volume and directional distribution of traffic utilizing an intersection as this information provides the basis for determining capacity, identifying the need for geometric improvements, assessing the appropriate level of traffic control, analyzing and timing signals, and establishing design parameters.   In preparation of a traffic count, a CBB engineer conducts a field visit to observe conditions and establish data collection needs.  While many turning movement counts are performed during traditional weekday peak traffic periods, the CBB data collection staff often conducts counts during special time periods to meet the varied needs of our clients.
