GAP STUDIES

A Gap Study is used to determine the size and frequency of gaps within an existing traffic stream or to assess the minimum gap that users of a facility are willing to accept.  This data is critical in assessing the ability of pedestrians to safely cross a roadway or vehicles to enter or cross a flow of traffic.  To that end, gap studies are often performed at pedestrian crossings, interchange ramps, and unsignalized intersections.  CBB utilizes several methods to collect this data depending upon the nature of the study area and the specific needs of the client.
