Over the last 20 years, CBB has served as the primary Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) consultant for the City of St. Louis. During this time, CBB was responsible for the successful design and implementation of a massive traffic signal and fiber optic network for the City of St. Louis that included the upgrade of nearly 400 signalized intersections along with video surveillance and wireless traffic volume count stations on every major arterial in the City to include traffic signal design, communications design, timing plan optimization, and new controller turn ons.
CBB also served as the City’s System Integrator for several CMAQ projects which included the review of various consultants’ signal design plans, yet CBB remained the sole communications designer having developed fiber plans to link all of the consultants’ projects together and incorporate the traffic signal control and video surveillance into the City’s network.
CBB was responsible for day-to-day operation of approximately 150 signals within the City during the new I-64 reconstruction project. During the closure of the east end of I-64, new timing plans were field implemented prior to the closure and monitored daily for adjustments as traffic patterns fluctuated as diverted highway traffic utilized these arterials. In the end, CBB was able to provide travel times along the priority routes that were less than or comparable to pre-closure conditions despite their increased traffic demands.
Currently, CBB is contracted to perform Phase I and II of the City’s “Traffic Management Enhancement” CMAQ project which includes modifying their signal and fiber network on some of their primary arterials to support special event and incident management for major City venues (such as Busch Stadium, Edward Jones Dome, Forest Park, Fox Theater, Chaifetz Arena, and the Scottrade Center) as well as the redesign and upgrade of their central fiber system for managing traffic signals and video surveillance.
Since 2012, CBB has served as the on-call traffic engineer for the City of St. Louis and provides critical on-going engineering assistance and services for new transportation projects throughout the City. Recent examples include Grand Blvd corridor study, Vandeventer Blvd corridor study, CMAQ grant application preparation, and fiber optic communications designs.
