Missouri Route 141/Astra Way Intersection Improvement & Roundabout
In 2010, CBB completed plans for roadway and signal design services for the reconstruction of Missouri Route 141 and Astra Way Drive. This STP project consists of adding an additional westbound left turn lane on 141 to create a dual left movement, reconstructing turning radii to provide raised islands for signal equipment and pedestrian movements, and widening for additional auxiliary lanes on Astra Way Drive to provide for dual northbound left turning movements. New signals with video detection were proposed as well as overhead signage and lighting. As part of this project, the existing photo enforcement equipment was relocated to the new traffic signal.
To complement the intersection improvements, the City received an additional STP project to construct a roundabout at the adjacent intersection of Astra Way Drive and Missouri State Road as recommended in a previous traffic study prepared by CBB. In 2011, CBB designed a single lane roundabout to complement the intersection improvements at the adjacent intersection. The roundabout includes a right turn bypass as well as lighting and sidewalks that tied into the adjacent commercial center, Library, City recreational complex, school and church.
These projects were bid jointly in December of 2011 and a single contractor was selected for construction. CBB completed the construction engineering work on both projects. Construction was completed in November of 2012.
